Cross Training

As far as exercise goes, running is my passion. I am a runner. So is my husband, thanks to me. But, he is also a physical therapist and I am eternally grateful because he helps me keep myself injury free. But it comes with a price...cross training. I hate the gym. I hate lifting weights. I hate running on a treadmill and elliptical machines. It has taken me years to be able to actually use them. I can run for hours outside. Put me on a machine and after 5 minutes I feel like i have been there for eternity. The other day I had to bust out 7 miles on a treadmill because my babysitter plans fell through and as such, I didn't have my stroller.

I stay injury free and have become a stronger, faster runner via cross training. Biking and swimming I enjoy. I am currently watching the 5th season of Once Upon A Time via my bike trainer. It is a great nap time workout. As are all the awesome workouts I find on pinterest. What I like to do is pull from a couple different workouts that I pin to create some great body confusion, get a good variety of muscle groups worked, and combine them into an hour long interval workout that will kick my butt.

For example. This is my most recent work out

You will notice it is a good mix of cardio and weighted exercises. There are 4 different workouts. The second workout in the right column is all done with weights. I used 10 lb. weights because that is all I have at home.

You will also notice that I don't do much ab work. That is because almost 15 months postpartum, I am still recovering from diastasis recti. So if you click on the links provided, you will see what I have altered to be appropriate for me. I have replaced normal ab work with my diastasis recti physical therapy exercises. On top of this, I also did 2 minutes of squat side walks with a band and 3 sets of 10/per side standing fire hydrants with a band. (Pt exercises to keep my butt strong for running and prevent knee injury.)

I hope you enjoy this workout as much as I did or did not. It is full of a lot of things I don't necessarily like to do, but they make me stronger and make me push myself, so I do them anyway.

ENJOY.
